DevilDriver “Trust No One”

DevilDriver

Ater Dez Fafara reunited with Coal Chamber,  everyone was wondering what would become of DevilDriver.  It may have taken three years, but they are back on the attack  with their 7th record “Trust No One.”

A few lineup changes have occured since the last Devil Driver record with Austin D’Amond taking over drum duties and Diego “Ashes” Ibarra handling the bass.  Longtime guitarist Mike Spreitzer has stated that this is the DevilDriver album he has always wanted to make.  Working again with producer Mark Lewis,  “Trust No One” is full of grooving riffs and contagious hooks.  The record is full of great melodies especially with the first single “Daybreak.”  There’s some interesting guitar work going on by Spreitzer and Neil Tieman using layered guitar melodies with lots of classical undertones.   “My Night Sky” is a standout with a relentless groove and haunting, driving melody.  “This Deception” starts off with some soft piano and a buzzing hum before breaking out into an all out thrasher and “Feeling Ungodly” is a true assault to the senses.   The album closes out with the epic “For What It’s Worth,” with a brutal vocal from Fafara and an almost symphonic feel from the guitars providing the listener with a unique dichotomy of sounds.

Only time will tell if “Trust No One” is the magnum opus Spreitzer is hoping for.  In the meantime, metal fans can crank this one up and bang their heads to some great new DevilDriver tunes.
