Papa Roach and Shinedown @ Tullio Arena, Erie, PA 12-6-09

This was only the second stop on a short co-headlining tour featuring two (2) of the coolest rock bands on the scene. Both bands are very energetic and each with their own slew of hits. Neither band relied on any sort of stage show and rocked the 3000 strong crowd with high intensity 75 minute sets and no encores.
At 8pm, the members of Shinedown walked out on the stage without warning while the house lights were still fully lit in the arena. Brent demanded the crowd stand up and the audience quickly responded. The lights went out and the show commenced with Sound Of Madness.” A backdrop was displayed featuring the The Sound Of Madness CD cover. Individual risers were up front and Barry had his drums set up stage left. One of the guitar techs was sporting a cool Gladiator helmet while switching out the acoustic guitar.
45 was performed early in the set and had the crowd singing along loudly. For the song I Dare You,” both Zach and Eric sat down on the provided stools and played along. Brent had inspirational and warm banter throughout the show. He encouraged people to shake hands with each other and also came out into the crowd to set up The Rise where fans all jump up and down at the same time. It seems he was holding back on some songs vocally, but it didnt take away too much from the great performance.
All band members were in fine form and Barry was enjoyable to watch on the drums as he was very visual twirling sticks and such. During Second Chance, some kids started crowd surfing. They closed their set with the hard rocking Devour and then spent time hanging-out on the stage while throwing out set lists and sticks.

Papa Roach hit the stage at 9:45pm and launched into Getting Away With Murder.” No backdrop was featured, but Tony had a very cool elevated circular drum riser. Jacoby started the crowd off into the Hey! Ho! Lets Go chant leading into To Be Loved.” He went out into the crowd several times without a security escort to get up close and personal. The new single Had Enough was performed. During Hollywood Whore, a member from the opening band, After Midnight Project, was invited out to help sing vocals. Jacoby got the crowd to produce a Wall Of Death and then moshing and crowd surfing went into high gear, especially during Time Is Running Out.”
During the intro leading up to Forever, Jacoby teased us with some quick drumming. He mentioned on stage that they were celebrating their ten-year anniversary as a band. There were numerous crowd sing-a-longs throughout the show and the fans didnt hold back. Jacoby was constantly working the stage and crowd. This band puts on one of the most energetic performances out there. It was great to see two bands of this caliber share the same stage.
