Papa Roach brought their Monsters of Annihilation Tour to the Armory in Rochester, NY this past Tuesday to a less than half-packed crowd. Nonetheless, Papa Roach brought their A game as one of the most energetic and engaging front men in rock, Jacoby Shaddix delivered the goods all night long. The band started out with their hit single Kick in the Teeth off of their latest CD Time for Annihilation. The solid rhythm section of Tony Palermo and Tobin Esperance kept the pounding going as their playing was another highlight of the evenings performance. Jacoby did end up in the pit, standing up on the barricade, during Blood Brothers, but didnt enter the crowd as he has done in past performances I have witnessed. The band also cranked out 3 other new songs; The Enemy, Burn, and One Track Mind. There was no encore performed and the band did an extended intro to Forever. Seated at the back of the stage were 2 contest winners from a local radio station who enjoyed the spoils of their luck, as Jacoby kept making sure they were all right and posing for them and making them laugh during the bands entire set.
Papa Roach did receive an ardent reaction but again, I was surprised to see a less than packed house. It could be that The Armory is not known for their acoustics. Its my opinion that an amazing live band like this should be appreciated in a venue that is able to provide the necessary accoutrements.
