The first night of the All American Nightmare Tour brought Hinder to Cleveland, Ohio. Canadian acts My Darkest Days and Default were also on the bill, which made for a great night of rock and roll fun.
First up was British Columbias Default. This band is on tour in support of their recent US release Comes and Goes. One of the highlights of the entire evenings festivities was the vocals of front man Dallas Smith. His voice sounded crisp as he belted out their hits Deny, Wasting my Time, and Count on Me, a fantastic set that deserves some more time (hopefully that will come as the tour goes on).
The new sensation from Toronto, Ontario called My Darkest Days is a young band with lots of promise. They seemed to get a good response as they cranked out songs from their self-titled debut CD. Keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Reid Henry donned the six string during Cant Forget You and their hit single Porn Star Dancing. Drummer Doug Oliver did his best Tommy Lee impersonation and brought out a camera to do his version of the titty cam. You will be hearing a lot more about these guys as time goes on Im sure.
The band that everyone was there to see took the stage to a background of ominous gates set up to depict that nightmarish appeal. It somewhat reminded me of the Avenged Sevenfold set-up. They came out and kicked into the first track off of the upcoming All American Nightmare called 2 Sides of Me. The band was extremely tight for their first show. Guitarist Blower was on cue the entire night as his he owned the guitar for the entire Hinder performance. He also played an acoustic on songs Better Than You and Lips of an Angel. The nights song selection was a heavily laden with tracks from the new disc, with 6 songs total coming from All American Nightmare.
It was a disappointing turnout for a Wednesday evening show at the House of Blues, as only about half the tickets were sold. However, that didnt take away from the performances of all three bands. All 3 owned it and its undoubtedly a must see tour when it comes to your town!
