Theory of a Deadman @ Town Ballroom, Buffalo, New York 4-28-12

Theory Of A Deadman played a packed Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY this past Saturday night. Taking the stage to the South Park song “Blame Canada”, they opened with a song from their latest album “The Truth Is…” called “Gentleman.” The one thing that stood out to me was how much of an accomplished rhythm guitarist Connolly is. His playing seems effortlessly, even while belting out song after song.

About halfway through the show Connolly, lead guitarist David Brenner and bassist Dean Back sat down to play a three song acoustic set. A nice and warm intimate feeling in the midst of their show seemed to go off very well. The crowd gave them a good reaction and the band seemed to take that energy into the rest of their performance.

Playing through the last 4 songs of their set, they all went out to edge of the stage reaching out to the fans, giving them high fives. Connolly and Brenner emptied their mic stands of guitar pics, handing them to lucky fans, before saying goodnight and exiting the stage.

With the crowd chanting “THEORY, THEORY!” the guys came out to play two more. “Hurricane”, their current single being played on the radio, and the their hit song from their last record “Scars and Souvenirs” called “Bad Girlfriend.”

As the house lights came up, and the venue emptied, I was left feeling satisfied. TOAD puts on a crowd pleasing live performance filled with great musicianship, and Connolly plays well to the crowd. When a band makes a connection to its fans like that, what else could one ask for?
