Bachman and Turner ‘Live at the Roseland Ballroom, NYC’

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner formed the core of Bachman Turner Overdrive, but like The Guess Who (Bachman’s other former band), being a core member doesn’t always allow performers to perform under their former band names and thus we have Bachman and Turner performing the BTO songs at the famed Roseland Ballroom.

Whatever you want to call them, the duo put on a great show filled with BTO hits, newer material and even a couple of Guess Who classics. Of course being in New York City adds to the excitement, even though the crowd doesn’t get too excited until the end of the set. Visually, the DVD is nicely done. The stage set isn’t too sparse and thankfully the camera work is tasteful without too many distracting edits.

They also get great angles on Bachman and Turner manipulating their instruments. It is especially cool to watch Fred Turner on bass, he definitely had a great night on the instrument.

The set closes with BTO’s biggest hit, “Taking Care of Business.” It’s a song I have seen Bachman perform three different times, once as a solo artist, once with The Guess Who (at Sarstock) and once as a solo artist. It remains one of the best live songs of all time and this version proves why.

The DVD is highly recommended for fans of BTO and Bachman’s other projects.
