The odds are stacked against them. They are all female. They are all under age 16, and hard rock music isn’t the most popular thing going these days. However, that didn’t discourage these 4 young ladies from Los Angeles, California, from successfully jumping those hurdles.
Their full length studio debut, “This is the End of Control,” was released in May 2012, and has received high praise from many critics and fellow musicians alike. They’ve already played for large audiences as part of the Soundwave Festival in Australia, as well as the Reading Festival .The group is managed by Samantha Maloney, former drummer for Hole and Motley Crue respectively.
Vocally speaking, singer Julia Pierce can be easily be compared to Lzzy Hale of Halestorm or even early Pat Benatar, with some Joan Jett attitude thrown in. However, she does boast her own style and can go from a short, choppy punk-like delivery to a melodic ballad with ease. One of the best songs on the record, and one of the more radio ready tunes would be, “Heart is Hole,” which has almost an Evanescence vibe to it. “Better This Way” and “Paper Doll” are close seconds with more up tempo, in-your-face attitude.
Cherri Bomb has got their look down, and in my opinion has plenty of substance to stick around for a while, though 16 can be quite a turbulent time in a young woman’s life. So time will tell. Ultimately, “This is the End of Control” offers 12 songs, all featuring great compositions and a youthful exuberance that can be appreciated by fans of hard rock in addition to mainstream listeners.
