With over 80 million records sold , British rockers Duran Duran are true pop music icons. No other band is more responsible for the rise of the music video age than Duran Duran as they took music videos to a new level and turned the video genre into a true art form. If you have ever wanted your MTV, then you know exactly what I am talking about.
“A Diamond In The Mind” was filmed live in Manchester at the MEN Arena in December of 2011. Shot in high-def and directed by Gavin Elder, the film features crystal clear visuals and crisp, clean audio. Using different styles of film such as slow motion and animation, Elder is able to capture the dramatic intensity of a Duran Duran live show. The audience is quickly entranced by the stunning visuals and incredible lighting and becomes fully integrated as part of the show.
Lead vocalist Simon LeBon is in top form and is a consummate showman. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes provides the full, lush sounds that are characteristic of Duran Duran. The video includes all the hits you would expect such as “Planet Earth,” “Hungry like the Wolf,” and “Rio.” Duran Duran’s version of the eighties Grandmaster Melle Mel song, “White Lines,” is also performed as well as a bit of Frankie Goes Hollywood’s “Relax” during the song “Wild Boys.” You won’t find any fluff or filler on this disc. Instead what you get is Duran Duran doing what they do best , performing live and captivating the audience.
A good concert video will make the viewer feel as if he were at the show. “A Diamond In The Mind” does better than that, providing the viewer with visuals that just can’t be seen from any other perspective.
