It’s not unusual for children to follow in their parent’s footsteps, perhaps learning their father’s trade or joining the family business. For Nigel Dupree, son of Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree, that business is rock and roll. As the old saying goes, like father, like son and in this case, it is completely true.
Nigel is all grown up now with a voice that kills and the looks to match. His latest release, “Up To No Good,” is quite simply a kick-ass rock and roll record. This is rock and roll just the way I like it; loud, hard, a little gritty, and with a touch of nasty. With lyrics that shout “I say what I want and I do as I please,” the opening track, “Attitude,” says it all. Nigel has become quite the songwriter as the great riffs and hooks continue on the first single, “Tumbleweed” and “Say Whatcha Say.” I especially liked “The Chooser” and “Hold On” which have a slower, bluesy groove going on which seems to fit Nigel’s voice very well.
Whether you’re cruising down the road or just kicking back with some friends, “Up To No Good” will be a perfect addition to your evening. With this record, Nigel Dupree has shown that he can stand on his own, outside of his father’s shadow. I for one hope that Nigel stays up to no good for many, many years to come.
