Lou Pallo of Les Paul’s Trio ‘Thank You Les’

The name Les Paul’s name is synonymous with music. Whose name you might not know, but should, is Les’ right hand man for over 45 years, Lou Pallo. Lou played with Les for many years and was part of the Les Paul trio. With Les’ passing in June of 2009, Lou continues to play every Monday at the Iridium in NYC with the infamous Les Paul trio featuring guest artists. Lou decided it was time to put together a nice tribute to Les by inviting a bevy of artists to participate in this extraordinary homage to one of the most important musical figures in the history of recorded music; Les Paul. The package comes with a CD and DVD (with bonus footage).

The liner notes are written by Les’ godson, Steve Miller. Steve also participates on the tracks “”Mr. Day/Tell Me What’s the Reason” and “Nature Boy.” Many candid interviews on the DVD include Keith Richards, Steve Miler, members from the Les Paul trio, Johnny A., Arlen Roth, and Billy F. Gibbons to name a few. The DVD also shows the making of the songs Lou performed with some of the artists on the DVD. Eddie Brigati of The Rascals and Bucky Pizzarelli did a magnificent job on “I’m Confessin’ That I Love You.” “St. Louis Blues” was also featured with Jon Paris and Bob Leive. Leive on the trumpet is a treat for sure! The Les Paul Trio takes their turn to shine without any guests as bassist Nicki Parrot takes the lead vocal on “Tennessee Waltz.” Some Spanish flavor was delivered by Jose Feliciano on “Besame Mucho.” Les’ favorite song was “Over the Rainbow” and Melinda Doolittle does this song justice and then some; a great way to end this collection of songs on the audio disc!

Many behind the scenes stories were shared with several of the artists mentioned, as well as quite a few others, serving as a fitting way for Lou to pay homage to the one and only Les Paul. This is a must have and a historic piece of to add to your collection!
