Heralded as one of the most influential artists ever, Morrissey brought his musical royalty to The Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls, NY, on Friday night. The sold out crowd was full of adoring fans, some of whom actually jumped on stage to take an opportunity to give Morrissey a hug. True to form, he continued on as if they didn’t even exist.
Morrissey has an air about him, and this transcends to his presence on stage. It’s kind of a “come on, love me, I’m Morrissey” attitude, obviously aware of how his fans worship him. Listening to his music throughout the show, it was apparent why he’s held in such high regard. His lyrics are poetic, and at times, bleak and full of anguish.
From the first song of the night “Shoplifters Of The World Unite,” to the last note of his encore “How Soon Is Now,” Morrissey had the packed house wrapped around his finger. Everyone in attendance seemed to hang on his every word, some even hugging and dancing with each other with tears in their eyes.
When he left the stage after his 90 minute set, and the house lights came up, it felt as if the entire group inside building let out a collective breath. The faces of the fans told the story of the night. They looked as if they had just witnessed the greatest performer ever and some would argue that’s exactly the case.
