Doro ‘Under My Skin’

With a career spanning over 25 years and 15 studio albums under her belt, German metal vocalist Doro Pesch has certainly earned her nickname of “Metal Queen.” From her early days as frontwoman of the metal band Warlock to her recent solo releases, Doro has shared her unique vocal and songwriting abilities with fans around the world. She has recently released a two (2) disc retrospective of her career, “Under My Skin” featuring over thirty terrific tracks.

The set really showcases the wide range of Doro’s talents and vocal stylings. She can wail with the best of them on Warlock classics like “All We Are,” “I Rule The Ruins,” and “Metal Tango.” But there is a softer side to Doro as well. Her hauntingly beautiful vocals shine on “Walking With The Angels” and “Rescue Me.” I also loved her laid back style and groove on “Angel In The Dark.” Also included in this set is a very unique version of Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law,” which starts out stripped down before ramping up into a keyboard laden orchestral type conclusion.

This collection will please both longtime Doro fans and those new to her work. My personal favorite is the upbeat rocker “Celebrate (Full Metal Female Version)” because that’s what “Under My Skin” really is; a celebration of great music by a great artist.
