When Paul McCartney’s “Live Kisses,” DVD arrived in my mailbox, I was immediately struck by the wonderful packaging. The version I received includes a 40 page hardcover book with plenty of striking visuals, lyrics and transcribed interviews. In short, it is beautifully packaged.
The packaging turned out to a suitable presentation for what can only be described as an awe-inspiring performance from McCartney and his impressive backing ensemble, which included Joe Walsh and Diana Krall.
Fans of McCartney’s legendary rock performances can attest to his well-deserved status as one of the greatest live performers of all time. Nevertheless, “Live Kisses” is not a three-hour rock concert marathon; it is a loving treatment of a catalog of songs from some of the greatest singers and songwriters in the history of recorded music.
If you are a fan of standards from Fats Waller, Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, you will absolutely love and appreciate this performance. If you are not familiar with music from that magical era, then this set will be an excellent starting point.
Perhaps the best use for “Live Kisses,” is to pop it in the DVD player, get a bottle of nice wine and enjoy it with the one you love.
