With her recently released 12th studio album titled “Raise Your Fist,” the “Metal Queen” Doro Pesch is currently in the midst of a 19 city tour in support of it. Doro is also celebrating her 30th year in the music business. A snowstorm didn’t stop the die hards from attending this show as it’s very rare that Doro plays the Western New York area. Doro’s backing band consists of longtime band mates Nick Douglas on bass & keyboards and Johnny Dee on drums with Bas Mass on lead guitar & keyboards and Luca Princiotta on rhythm guitar & keyboards.

Doro didn’t take the stage until 12:30 AM but the wait was well worth it. There are few performers who can match her intensity and dedication in the music business. She opened up with the up-tempo “I Rule the Ruins.” Her voice hasn’t lost anything as she delivered on “True as Steel” and “Earthshaker Rock.” Dee played it up, also giving a cool little drum solo in between the aforementioned songs. One of my favorite songs Doro does live is “Fur Immer.” She showed her range during this song. The band did a different version of the Judas Priest song “Breaking the Law.” It was delivered with a slow start with a quick turn around and headbanging finish.

My only disappointment was not seeing my favorite track called “Rock Till Death” off of “Raise Your Fist,” performed live. Doro made sure she told the fans how much she appreciated them for coming out throughout the show and told them she would never disappoint them. She kept that promise for the entire one hour and 25 minuet set. As Doro always does, she puts her fans first and foremost and it was another standout performance from the Metal Queen!

Sweden’s own Sister Sin opened up the show and gave a nice 45 minute set. Also in support of a new disc “Now and Forever,” the band went through a steady nine (9) song set. Lead singer Liv Jagrell got the crowd into it by constantly whipping her long black hair around to the beat of each song the band did. Besides their own catalog, they also dipped in the cover territory by doing an UDO song called 24/7.

Jagrell reminded me of Doro with her crowd interaction and the way she delivered the songs. Any comparison to her should be a welcoming compliment for her and her band. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Sister Sin.
