Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” toured rolled into Buffalo, NY this past Tuesday night. Underwood has already accomplished more in the last 8 years than most artists have done in their entire careers. She is a 6 time Grammy award winner, she owns the record for most number one singles on the country charts (12), and already is being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
Many fans expected big things from the show and for the most part, Underwood didn’t disappoint. The tour is a huge production for this former American Idol winner which included 4 outfit changes, a stage that moved and separated into two parts and a mini stage that went over the crowd for 4 songs. Along with the big production of course came the big voice, Underwood’s trademark, which she capitalized on throughout, especially during “Jesus Take the Wheel and “Nobody Ever Told You.” She dedicated “All American Girl” to the predominantly female crowd.
She sang a duet with Brad Paisley entitled “Remind Me” via the video screen. She told the cowed she was ready for the winter weather to be over and she can’t wait to take a vacation to a warm place. She then proceeded to throw out some lei’s and some beach balls were then tossed out by the stage hands during “One Way Ticket.”
Overall, I still felt that Underwood got lost in the big picture a little. I’m not sure if she was ever comfortable with the bells and whistles that this tour is bringing. Nevertheless, the show was very entertaining and I’m sure that most of the fans walked away from the First Niagara Arena feeling the same way.
Personally, I for one appreciate the big production and “rock and roll” style of atmosphere that most of the bigger country artists are now turning too. After seeing a spectacle like this, I guess you can appropriately say that “this ain’t your daddy’s country music show now is it?”
