D-A-D ‘Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark.’

Danish rockers D-A-D are about to release their eleventh album “Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark.” Formerly known as Disneyland After Dark, the band had to change its name for legal reasons. (Notice the play on words in the title.) D-A-D has been tearing it up for years in Denmark and Europe, but this record marks its first official U.S. release.

The band consists of brothers Jasper and Jacob Binzer on lead vocals and lead guitar respectively, with Stig Pedersen on bass and Laust Sonne behind the kit. Their style has been described as “cowpunk,” a little bit of hard rock, glam, and punk mixed together. The sound is simple and pure with three note riffs and lots of energy. They sound tight as a unit with Jasper’s raspy vocals a standout. The record kicks off with “A New Age Moving In” and I am quite simply hooked. The song is a bit bluesy with a hard edge, a catchy riff, and a terrific groove. The ride continues with the ramped up “I Want What She’s Got” and “The End,” followed by “Fast On Wheels” which is a lighter romp, a great cruising or sing-a-long type tune. A nice piano driven ballad is also included with “We All Fall Down.” The deluxe version of the record also includes some live tracks and acoustic versions of some of D-A-D’s biggest hits.

“Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark” is loud, upbeat and full of life and is just a damn good rock and roll record. The American music industry often overlooks bands like D-A-D but they are really something you don’t want to miss. This record is on my must buy list and it should be on yours as well.
