John Densmore ‘The Doors Unhinged’

Drumming legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Densmore of The Doors will be releasing his second book on April 16, 2013 entitled “The Doors Unhinged.” The story focuses on his legal battle against his bandmates Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek regarding the proper future uses of the band’s name.

If you read within the confines of the book, yes, the book talks about how the trial played out every step of the way but it really focuses in on something deeper. That being the subject of “the greed gene.” Densmore goes onto explain what the greed gen is. It also talks about integrity and honesty and if a man’s words mean something well after they are said, written down and even signed and agreed upon within the same parties.

Densmore’s commentary on the crusade against protecting the name deals with all of the aforementioned and includes help from the Morrison and Courson estates during this trial (Pamela Courson was left Morrison’s estate when he died back in 1971).

Densmore talks in depth about the details of the 6 month trial, the case dragged on with a final judge decision for another 6 months plus appeals, making for a lengthy case that cost Densmore his marriage and sanity at times.

It’s apparent that Densmore is hell bent on protecting the legacy of his deceased band mate and went to great lengths to do it. Desnmore provides plenty of insight into the thoughts and emotions that lingered through his mind during the trial, making for a great read.

The book will provide any Doors fans with yet another chapter of the bands infamous history.
