Jeff Pilson’s resume includes stints with Dokken, Dio and his status as bass player for Foreigner. In the late 1980’s Pilson, along with Vinny Appice, Michael Diamond and Randy Hansen, got together for what was dubbed “The Flesh and Blood Sessions.”
Originally released in 1999 and long out of print, the album is back on the shelves with some amazing artwork and impressive packaging.
I’ll be honest, when I first received my review copy I had no idea that the album was recorded around twenty-five years ago. Sonically, it sounds very clean, and even though the style harkens back to the hair band metal era, it sounds great.
Perhaps the most astounding thing is how good of a vocalist Pilson is. I confess that I have never heard him sing lead before, and he has a great voice for metal.
Pilson has been touring off and on with different lineups under the War and Peace moniker, but this is the quintessential version of the band. Standout tracks include “Kill for the Love of God” and “Nailed to the Cross.”
