Do you remember the 1980’s? Perhaps you were not around then and some, perhaps only vaguely… but this was the decade of heavy hitting, guitar crunching, old-school heavy ‘metal’ rock acts like Quiet Riot, an American band best known for their 6x platinum selling album “Metal Health” and hit single “Cum On Feel the Noize,” who brought their show to Braun’s Concert Cove in Akron, New York on Saturday June 15, 2013.
The band took the stage as the sun was setting and the energetic crowd gathered in front. As the first chords of the opening song “Run For Cover” rattled our ears and memories, hands were held high in the air and heads rocked to the beat. “Slick Black Cadillac” went right into “Mama We’re All Crazy Now” which had the crowd singing along with the almost legendary phrase.
“BUFFALO – MAKES SOME NOIZE!” The night progressed with powerhouse songs like “Love’s A Bitch” and Condition Critical.” Recalling the days of big hair in the 80’s, lead vocalist Scott Vokoun told of how all the memories and events that took place during those days led up to where they are right now and each one was a “Sign Of The Time,” and even made the comparison between then and now before ripping right into the hit song from the “Condition Critical” album. Screaming guitar leads and vocals lead the crowd with fists in the air as “HEY HEY HEY HEY” was belted out in unison by everyone there.
Bassist Chuck Wright showed his great talent and ability with an extended version of “Bass Case” from the QR III album and had the crowd cheering with each movement of his remarkable solo performance. This lead right into “The Wild and The Young,” a futuristic tale of the banning of rock and roll. No misbehaving.
The night wrapped up with their two most recognizable and arguably biggest hits starting with “Cum On Feel The Noize.” The crowd whipped into a small frenzy with this song cheered for more and an encore performance of “Metal Health” was played with precision, passion and all the energy that made this group what everyone remembers them to be. genuine old-school heavy metal rockers that may grow old but will never fade.
The current lineup of this iconic metal group features lead vocalist Scott Vokoun, drummer Frankie Banali, bassist Chuck Wright and guitarist Alex Grossi. The band played with conviction, strength and passion, and the raw power that recalled the days of big hair and metal-crunching screaming guitar licks and bang-your-head pounding rhythms that kept metal alive and healthy.
We may not remember the 80’s but one Saturday night at Braun’s Concert Cove with this legendary band will not soon be forgotten. “Girlz. rock your boyz!”
