Unfortunately, we no longer have one of the best rock singers who ever lived in Ronnie James Dio. Despite this, his management team put together a package a few years ago to celebrate the life of this legendary singer. The band consists of Craig Goldy on guitar, Scott Warren on keyboards, Bjorn Englen on bass, Vinnie Appice on drums and both Oni Logan and Ripper Owens on vocals.
The show at Willow Creek Winery in Silver Creek, NY, went on late but, again, it was at a winery and as remarked by Ripper at one point, “This is my first time playing a winery, and I like it.” The key for the night was how the songs would flow with the interchange between the powerful vocals of one Mr. Tim Ripper Owens and the ever so smooth Mr. Oni Logan. Ripper started the pace with the rapid “Stand Up and Shout.” A perfect way to get the crowd going. Logan showed up a little later and took the mic for “Egypt (The Chains are on).”
It looked like the singers didn’t step on each other’s toes and let the music of Ronnie James Dio dictate the flow and tempo of the evening. Goldy was as steady as one can be. He worked with Ronnie right up until the end of his life and he showed why he was such an asset to Dio. Ripper of course showed why he still has one of the most powerful voices in rock. He hit all the high notes and was very gracious and gave honor to Ronnie throughout the entire night’s performance.
This is a great venue to see a show due to the intimacy and you are able to camp there as well. If you are a drinker, the wine slushies are amazing. It is really a hidden gem of the Western New York area concert scene!
