Mike Tramp and John Corabi @ Braun’s Concert Cove, Akron, New York 7-24-13

Braun’s Concert Cove in Akron, NY, has a killer lineup of music all summer long and one of the shows that may have flown under the radar was Mike Tramp with John Corabi both doing separate acoustic sets. Both of these men fronted bands who were highly successful in White Lion and Mötley Crüe.

Corabi took the stage first and told stories about how he was working on the “Motley Crue” record when the rest of the band took him to another studio to meet Steven Tyler and Joe Perry for the first time. “I literally sh*t myself,” Corabi stated. “Then I was playing a song in the lobby one day and Tyler walks in and stated how I was playing this song wrong. Well, I relearned it and here it is.” A smooth version of “Seasons of Wither” was delivered. Corabi did a nice retrospect of his career including a few gems from his old bands The Scream and Union.

Tramp is currently on tour in support of his solo album “Cobblestone Street,” released earlier this year. He is doing a worldwide run in support of it. A nice hour and half set included some story telling of his own, including a very nice comment about his old guitar player Vito Bratta. Before playing one of his former band White Lion’s greatest hits in “Wait,” Tramp remarked how Bratta played maybe one of the best solos that one could play on that song. Bratta was an underrated guitar player in his day and the crowd agreed. Tramp interjected jokes in between songs poking fun at himself and the 80’s music that his band came out of. He didn’t take himself too seriously which was very endearing. He came off as very likeable and his show was very good because of that and his playing. Tramp is a solid acoustic player and delivered the songs with precision. I was very impressed by his performance.

Overall, it was a pleasant surprise I must say. I didn’t know what to expect but both performers blew me away. Check out Tramp or Corabi when they come to your town. You won’t be disappointed.
