Kellie Pickler @ LaBatt Canal Concert Series, Lockport, New York 8-9-13

Country music star Kellie Pickler stopped by Lockport, NY, this past Friday as part of the Labatt Music series. Pickler, who also is doubling as the current “Dancing with the Stars” champion is becoming country’s new darling as she took control of the crowd from the opening chords of “Little House on the Highway.”

Pickler, who was sporting a short haircut and a white undershirt, constantly was waving to her fans and came off as sweet and lovable just as she did as an America Idol contestant. Her band was tight and the songs sounded great. Pickler let her musicians take the spotlight and play some solos on various tunes. Her band did a medley of Prince’s “Purple Rain” at the end of “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.”

Pickler’s new single “Someone Somewhere Tonight,” served as the first song her band has played in New York State. It came off very well had a catchy melody. Pickler enjoyed the spotlight herself as she sat a top a stool at the end of the stage and talked about writing her first song after American Idol which was “I Wonder.”

Pickler may not have the vocal range of a Carrie Underwood, but sure has the likeability and personality to hold her own. If any of her new songs are anything like “Someone Somewhere Tonight” and “Little Bit Gypsy,” then her fans and the whole country community as a whole should brace themselves for a helluva record!
