A band that has created a lot of buzz within the past year has been Los Angeles’ Butcher Babies. Led by 2 beautiful front woman in Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd, the band just released their first full length studio CD in July titled “Goliath.”
Currently opening up for the Danzig 25 year anniversary tour (Editors note: we won’t be reviewing Danzig due to a no photography rule the band currently enacts) the band is enjoying playing to big audiences every night. The band played about a 45 minute set to a mixed reaction. I think the crowd didn’t know what to make of them at first. After a few songs, most of the crowd warmed up to them. The ones who didn’t let them know their displeasure. The band took it in stride and continued on and in doing so, earned the respect of the naysayers and won over some new fans also in the process.
With Shepherd’s unclean vocals mixed in with Harvey’s straight ahead power vocals, the band offers unique look into a different way metal can be delivered. Former guitarist Amen guitarist Henry Flury dished out the heavy licks all night while bassist Jason Klein and drummer Chris Warner provided a heavy backbeat all evening.
A mix of The Plasmatics, Slipknot and some Pantera thrown in there, the Butcher Babies are a high energy act that wants to punish you. I felt they accomplished that feat in the Falls on Thursday night.
