After a highly successful 40-year anniversary run this past summer, iconic vocalist Paul Rodgers is having fun doing some solo dates. One of those dates was outside of Clearwater, Florida for the Born to Ride Jam where Rodgers headlined.
Taking the stage around 9:45pm, Rodgers and his solo band played over an hours worth of hits. What is nice on these solo shows is that Paul gets to spread his wings out and play some of the songs that you may not hear during a Bad company show. It was a real treat to hear “Mr. Big” and “Honey Child.” Rodgers voice still delivers in a big way after all of these years and this show wasn’t any different. With the newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Howard Leese by his side, the band could do no wrong.
Of course songs like “Feel Like Making Love” and “Shooting Star’ were the highlights of the evening as everyone sang along and had their drinks in the air for most of it. For me, anytime Rodgers takes behind the piano is a real treat. I love how he balances his playing to his vocal range. “Bad Company” really fits this bill and this track showcases Rodgers extraordinary talents.
What is a Paul Rodgers show without playing one of the biggest songs ever recorded in doing his former band Free’s number “All Right Now.” This was a 2nd encore and a great way to end the show. I still don’t get why Paul Rodgers isn’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Every time you see him, he definitely puts on a performance that is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame worthy!
