Apocalyptica ‘Wagner Reloaded-Live In Leipzig’

Any heavy metal fan worthy of their studded leather bracelet knows that the roots of our beloved genre can be found in blues based rock and roll. But what you may not realize are the huge similarities between metal and classical music. Yes, that’s right. I said classical music. If you have any doubts, just listen to Bach’s Six Suites for Violincello or Prelude in C-sharp Minor by Rachmaninoff; these guys knew how to shred! It’s always exciting when the two genres are blended in a way to create unique and interesting new sounds, and nobody does this better than the Finnish metal band Apocalyptica.

The cello based rockers gained fame with their wicked covers of Metallica songs and have worked with some of the best names in rock including Brent Smith of Shinedown and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. Their latest release, “Wagner Reloaded-Live In Leipzig,” is a live collaboration with the world renowned MDR Symphony Orchestra and is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of German composer Richard Wagner. The album contains new compositions based on the life and original works of Wagner. The band even teamed up with dancer and choreographer Gregor Seyffert to create the ultimate live concert and theatrical experience.

From the opening notes of the intro “Signal” one becomes entranced in the majesty of the music. From the brutal metal runs of “Flying Dutchman” and “Creation Of Notes” to the soulful beauty of “Lullaby” and “Ludwig-Requiem” the listener is treated to a total sensory delight. The musicianship of Apocalyptica is not to be questioned. They are simply masters of their instruments and The MDR Symphony Orchestra serves to both enrich and enhance the experience. Fans of both metal and classical will appreciate and enjoy “Wagner Reloaded-Live In Leipzig.” It will make a great addition to any music lover’s collection.
