Guitar great Tim Reynolds main project TR3 made an appearance before a hearty crowd this past Monday night. A good sized crowd braved zero degree temperatures and Tim and the band made numerous mentions of this and were very thankful that they came out. In return, the band delivered a memorable 22 song performance.
You may know Reynolds form his day job with the Dave Mathews Band. TR3 are comprised of Tim on guitar, Mick Vaughn on bass and Dan Martier on drums. The band pulled songs from its studio efforts and a few covers, which included Tom Waits’ “Face to the Highway” and Jethro Tull’s “Aqualung.”
Reynolds kept switching 6-strings the entire night, going from a traditional fender to an acoustic to a flying V at one point. It didn’t matter what one he picked, his proficiency on each came out. He truly is a very underrated guitarist.
Each one of the guys took their turn at lead vocals. I really liked Vaughn on “Showbiz Kids” the best. Reynolds did sound the part on Waits cover as his raspy voice fit the song to a tee. There were also a handful of instrumentals as well including “Cave Man,” where the band donned blue indigo glasses as the entire stage went dark. TR3 also tried out a new song called “Running from People” that seemed to go over really well.
The show lasted about 2 plus hours and the few fans that stuck around after got a nice treat, as the entire band came out to pose for photos and sign autographs. There are only a handful of dates left on their USA trek before the guys head over to Italy for the 1st time. If you can make the show, you will not be disappointed!
