Charlotte natives Another Lost Year came home this past Friday to play a new release show at Amos’s Southend for their latest EP, “The Revolution Part 1.” Friends, family, and most importantly fans came out to show support for their local heroes. For those unfamiliar with Another Lost Year, they are a hard rock quintet with strong melodies and top notch songwriting. Whether it’s your first time or your 20th time at an ALY show, you will feel right at home with the band’s songs and emotional performances.
The evening kicked off with a charity raffle and guitar giveaway to benefit a Veteran’s rehabilitation effort. But of course, the highlight of the night was the music. Performing songs from their “Better Days” album as well as the new EP, Another Lost Year put in a solid set with a little bit of everything thrown into the mix. Guitarists Adam Hall and David Whitaker were on fire all night long as the band ran through “Better Days” and the WWE Monday Night Raw song, “Broken.” One of their biggest fans was invited up onstage to help with backing vocals during “Writing on the Wall” which elicited a huge crowd response. The star of the show though was undoubtedly lead vocalist Clinton Cunanan whose soaring, emotional vocals are quite simply amazing. About midway through their set, the stools were brought out for a touching acoustic performance of “Southern California.” The reaction to the new EP was strong as ALY announced that they were shooting a video for their newest single “The End of You and I” that night. I particularly enjoyed their version of Keith Urban’s hit “Cop Car.” To close out the evening, Another Lost Year brought out members of all the opening bands to join them onstage for their biggest hit, “War on the Inside” and then capped things off with a tribute to all the exes, “Cold Hearted Bitch.”
The evening was rock and roll at its best. If you get a chance to check out the band live, don’t miss it!
