Anytime I get to see one of my favorite bands play live it’s a treat as was the case last Wednesday night in Rochester, NY. That band is Buckcherry; who are currently on tour with Fozzy and Adelitas Way. The basement of this hollowed establishment was set up for this rock and roll show. It didn’t matter what part of the armory the bands played in as all three (3) gave a show that was worth the night out on this hump day.
Adelitas Way got things started promptly at 8pm as the band kicked into the first cut off of their last studio effort titled “Collapse.” Vocalist Rick Dejesus brought it along with his band. Even though the set was short, they gave the fans a taste of what to expect off of their upcoming release. Adelitas Way played two new songs “Collapse” and “Dog on a Leash.” The songs went over very well and expect a summer date release for the new CD titled “Stuck.”
Next up is a band I’ve been wanting to see live. Fozzy, fronted by media darling Chris Jericho, has been together for 15 years but has not played in Western New York until now. Jericho took the stage wearing a lit up jacket that changed colors. The band played the perfect opening track in “Do You Want to Start a War?” This will be the title track to the next album which will be released in July. Fozzy just released the single “Lights Go Out” on ITunes last week. Jericho and the band gave a very strong performance and personally, I really loved both new tracks. A woman decided to bypass security and join Jericho and the boys and dance to “Sandpaper.” This is band I cannot wait to see again and will do so in a week’s time as they will be playing “Rock on the Range” for the first time.
The headliner, Buckcherry, closed out the night’s performance with what you’d expect from a Buckcherry show. This is the first time I’ve seen the band with new bass player Kelly LeMieux who took over for the departed Jimmy Ashurst late in 2013. Lemieux (along with longtime drummer Xavier Muriel) kept the ship steady as the rest of the longtime members did what they do best; deliver a kick ass rock n’ roll show. Opening with one of their most well-known songs in “Lit Up,” I knew this was going to be a hell of a show. Vocalist Josh Todd sounded great, as usual, and the guitar pair of Keith Nelson and Stevie D are as solid as as they come.
I was glad to see some songs off of “Time Bomb” make it into the set (“Fall,”” Ridin’” and “Porno Star”). Sometimes the band doesn’t give enough love to that album and I’m glad they did so here. The band played “Dreamin’ of You” which included both Nelson and Stevie D on acoustic guitars. I must admit, I wasn’t used to seeing acoustic guitars at a Buckcherry show but liked the different element it brought. The band will be releasing an EP in August.
Get ready for new music from all three (3) bands this year and again, anytime you get to see one of the best touring bands out there in Buckcherry, it’s a must see this time and every time. It was a bonus with Adelitas Way and Fozzy thrown in for good measure.
