One of the most successful bands to come out of the ’90s, and continue well into this century, 3 Doors Down, brought their Southern Rock Band to Lewiston, NY, to entertain a crowd diverse in age. With their music appealing to people of all ages, frontman Brad Arnold once noted “…we do not cuss on stage, and our lyrical content is appropiate… even grandma can listen to our songs.”
Opening their set with their hard driving song “Duck and Run,” the unusually cool summer night warmed up quickly. Fans began dancing and waving their arms in rhythm as Arnold made his way around the stage, almost seemingly making eye contact with each person there. At the conclusion of their opening song, Arnold thanked crowd. He addressed the audience for the first of many times to come, by saying; “thank you, my friends.”
With a setlist that contained all of their hits, and some new material that will be on their next release, 3DD showed that their “sound” isn’t changing. A few of the songs that they performed were dedicated to men and women in service, one of them was “Citizen Soldier.” They seem eternally grateful that they are fortunate to make a living doing what they love, and respect those that keep their freedom safe.
At one point during the show, Arnold brought a drumstick to a young man in the front row. He acknowledged him as the future of music, and one of the reasons he loves performing. After a couple of songs, he noticed another young man, and to make sure he wasn’t left out, Arnold retrieved a drumstick for him as well.
When they closed out their set with “Better Life,” not a single fan left the venue… the fans knew they hadn’t heard 3DD’s biggest hit. As they returned to the stage, they acknowledged the erupting crowd, and started into “Kryptonite.” Arnold asked the crowd to help him sing the song and, on cue, the mass of thousands sang a full chorus as he stood and smiled. As they prepared to close the show, Arnold said “if you’ve ever seen us, you know we end our shows this way, and if you ever see us again, we’ll still close it this way.” He went on to dedicate the last song of the night to the service men and women around the world, and they closed with “When I’m Gone.”
