Allman Brothers ‘The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings’

Rock and roll is not meant to only be listened to but to be experienced, and the best way to do this is through a live performance. In order to capitalize on the passion and excitement of their shows, bands began to release live recordings of their concerts, thus bringing about the advent of the “live” album. Not all live albums are created equal and only a select few have become classics. One such album is “At Fillmore East” by The Allman Brothers Band, perhaps the best live band of all time. Universal Music Enterprises and Mercury Records have released a 6 CD box set of these iconic Fillmore East performances, The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings.”

Recorded live from Bill Graham’s East Village club, The Fillmore East, by Atlantic records veteran engineer and producer Tom David, the set contains all four of the Allman’s shows from March 12-13th 1971. If you’ve never experienced The Allman Brothers Band live, now is your chance. Extraordinary musicians Duane and Gregg Allman, as well as guitarist Dickey Betts, come together to provide a true sensory delight. From the opening strains of Statesboro Blues the Allmans come to do what they did best, perform live. There are 15 previously unreleased tracks and include all the extended solos and jam sessions, including an over twenty minute jam of “Whipping Post.””Also included in the set is their headlining set from the closing show of the Fillmore East in June of the same year. This CD features an introduction by Bill Graham and a special “Drunken Hearted Boy” with Elvin Bishop and the epic 33 minute “Mountain Jam.”

“The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings is the quintessential live experience and both fans and collectors alike won’t want to miss out on this rare look inside rock and roll history.
