After four years, the hard rock heavyweights of Godsmack are back with all new music for their sixth studio album, “1000HP.” There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the release of this record with Godsmack appearing on the Rockstar Uproar tour and the mayor of Boston declaring August 6, 2014 as Godsmack Day.
The album gives us everything we have come to love about Godsmack with the powerful vocals of Sully Erna, heavy bass lines courtesy of Robbie Merrill, signature riffs and ripping guitars from Tony Rombola and the thundering drums of Shannon Larkin. “1000HP” is aptly titled as the record takes off like a bullet from the chamber with the title track which is also the first single. The driving beat and memorable chorus of “1000HP” give it all the makings of a classic Godsmack anthem. “FML” features an Alice In Chains type sludgy groove and ”Something Different” brings just that with a slower pace and the addition of strings giving it a bit of an orchestral feel. My favorite track on the record was “Locked & Loaded” with a great riff and guitar work by Rombola and a classic rock and roll cocky attitude from frontman Sully Erna.
Four years is a long time between albums and with Sully and bandmates exploring solo careers and other options, I was curious to hear what this album would have to offer. Clearly, it was worth the wait. “1000HP” is an outstanding album with all the maturity of a seasoned rock act and all the “piss and vinegar” of their earlier years. Go grab your copy today and make sure you “Turn That Shit Up Louder!”
