Flying Colors ‘Second Nature’

My fellow music lovers, I cordially invite you to come and experience “Second Nature,” the second album from the prog rock supergroup Flying Colors. With a quintet of absolute virtuosos and exquisitely crafted songs, one does not simply listen to Flying Colors. You must sit back, take your time, and experience it.

The record opens with the soft piano runs of Neal Morse on “Open Up Your Eyes” before the guitars of Steve Morse and bass of Dave Larue kick in. Underlying everything are the drums of Mike Portnoy and it is more than halfway through the track before the vocals of Casey McPherson are heard. The progressive rock runs are an audible treat with a seamless interweaving of sounds and instruments coupled with orchestral embellishments and beautiful arrangements. Taking things on a more classic rock note is the harder vibe that can be heard on “Bombs Away” before the stripped down opening of “The Fury of My Love” changes directions again. Awash yourself in the serenity of “Peaceful Harbor” with the gorgeous vocals of McPherson shining bright before capping things off with the epic track “Cosmic Symphony.”

Musically, Flying Colors are not just going off on a wild prog tangent. There seems to be a sense of purpose to each and every note with the pieces of the songs fitting tightly together like the pieces of a puzzle. “Second Nature” is an album that you’ll want to listen to time and time again. As you set forth on this journey, take the time to soak it all in and discover all there is to experience.
