Stryper ‘Live at the Whisky’

Thirty years after they took the Sunset Strip by storm, Stryper returns to where it all began with their latest release, “Live at the Whisky.” The live CD/DVD combo was recorded live last November at the world famous Whisky a Go Go in front of a sold out audience supporting the release of their newest studio album, “No More Hell to Pay.”

Featuring the original band lineup and produced by frontman Michael Sweet, the live album really captures Stryper’s classic eighties metal sound. The guitars of Sweet and Oz Fox sound loud and in charge as they rip through a solid sixteen song set held together by Tim Gaines on the bass and Robert Sweet behind the kit. They kick things off with the newer tracks “Legacy” and “Marching Into Battle” which seamlessly flow into classics like “Loud N’ Clear” from their 1984 debut album and the audience favorite “Calling On You.” Don’t miss the blistering guitars on Stryper’s cover of the old gospel classic “Jesus Is Just Alright.” Closing out the show in dramatic fashion are the screams of Michael Sweet as he ends “The Way” in top notch form. The band returns for a rousing encore of two of their most famous tunes, “To Hell With the Devil” and “Soldiers Under Command.” The DVD contains some added bonuses in the form of video clips and an interview segment.

With over 10 million records sold worldwide, it’s clear that Stryper has a loyal listening audience but live is where they really shine. If you’ve never seen them perform or even if you’ve seen them dozens of times, you’ll want to check out “Live at the Whisky.” It really captures the passion and energy that Stryper has for their music and it’s a must have for your collection.
