New Medicine ‘Breaking the Model’

In 2010, the Minnesota rockers New Medicine broke out onto the rock scene with their debut album “Race You To the Bottom.” With addictive melodies and an in your face style, their unique blend of rock, electronic, and rap commanded attention. For their sophomore effort, “Breaking the Model,” singer/songwriter Jake Scherer expands their sound by using influences from all genres of music yet still stays true to their signature sound.

The record sounds polished yet raw at the same time and with the skills of producer Kevin Kaddish (O.A.R., Skillet), the band makes perfect use of studio effects adding just enough in the right places and never too much. The title track opens with a strong blues riff and the first single “One Too Many” is a true good time drinking song. Changing things up is the acoustic ballad “All About Me” and the grooving rock of “Like a Rose.” Of course it wouldn’t be a New Medicine album without the party anthem “World Class Fuck Up” which surprisingly has a real pop feel to it.

“Breaking the Model” is a strong follow up record and shows us a little different side of New Medicine. But fans needn’t worry. They’re still loud and full of attitude just the way we like them!
