Tantric ‘Blue Room Archives’

In 1999, out of the ashes of Days of the New rose the post-grunge sounds of Tantric. Frontman Hugo Ferreira is the only original member left but he has kept Tantric going strong . Their latest release “Blue Room Archives” is a collection of unreleased rarities, remixes, and acoustic selections. The production is lean and the album has a personal feel with Hugo picking out some of his favorite songs for this record.

The album isn’t as heavy as what you may be used to from Tantric with the pop rock vibe of the first single “Cynical” and the catchy chorus of “Abuse.” A little bit of electronica is added to the remixes of “Fall to the Ground” and “Mind Control” with an almost dance club sound to them. Acoustic versions of two of their biggest hits “Breakdown” and “Mourning” are included and prove to be just as powerful, if not more so, than the originals. The band sounds tight with Ferreira’s vocals blending perfectly with the different instruments. Highlights are the soulful guitar work on “Indiscretion” and the laidback feel of “Flip a Coin.”

“Blue Room Archives” is a terrific collection of songs from a highly underrated band. The great acoustic guitar work and harmonies make this one a must listen.
