Nickelback ‘No Fixed Address’

After starting out as a quality post-grunge hard rock band, Nickelback has somehow evolved into the band that everyone loves to hate. Now I like to give credit where credit is due and there are some things that Nickelback does better than almost any band out there. They are superb at writing radio friendly songs with catchy hooks and huge choruses and their latest album “No Fixed Address” is no exception.

The lead single “Edge of a Revolution” is a driving rock number destined for arena rock glory. “Satellite” and “Miss You” both offer up the typical Nickelback “hands swaying in the air” ballad. There is an interesting dance beat to “She Keeps Me Up” and “Got Me Runnin’ Round” has a bit of a hip-hop vibe and features rapper Flo Rida. The production on the album is slick as always and frontman Chad Kroeger has never sounded better. There are several mediocre songs in the middle of the record and the ballad “What Are You Waiting For?” takes the rock right out of pop-rock and sends the band straight into teeny bopper territory.

“No Fixed Address” doesn’t offer up anything that we haven’t heard before but there are enough toe tapping beats to spawn numerous hit singles and ensure the band more commercial success. For all their haters, the guys will once again be laughing all the way to the bank.
