Ryan Cabrera @ Iron Works, Buffalo, New York 4-4-15

Pop singer Ryan Cabrera rolled through Buffalo, NY this past Saturday night on tour in support of his brand new EP “Wake Up Beautiful.” The band took to the stage and played an hours worth of material consisting of Cabrera’s works. The show started off with “40 Kinds of Sadness,” from his gold selling record “Take it All Away.” Many references were made to this record, not because it was Cabrera’s biggest selling record to date, but because of the tie in to Buffalo, NY. Buffalo’s own Johnny Reznik of the Goo Goo Dolls co-produced this and when Cabrera made mention of it to the crowd, it seemed to promote his acceptance as a long lost relative. Cabrera really won the crowd over with his songs and his candid banter in between songs. Before the track, “Sing Along,” it magically started snowing. Cabrera took notice and thanked Buffalo for providing a California boy with his first vision of snow this entire winter (even though now it was technically Spring). This track had the crowd participating in the chorus and was very upbeat, and one of my favorite tracks off of the new EP.

Cabrera made sure he not only played songs from the new EP but stated, “this is for all you old school fans out there,” and played “On the Way Down.” He also played a “jam session” song which ended up using a few lines from Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”

Cabrera is really throwing everything into it for 2015 as he not only released his first music in 8 years with “Wake up Beautiful,” but there is already a new full disc waiting to be unleashed. He gave the fans a little taste of the upcoming release by playing a new track called “Sin to be Saved,” as his last song of the evening.

Cabrera gave Buffalo a good shot in the arm to gear it up for the spring season, which obviously can’t come soon enough!
