One of the most underrated pop rock bands to come out of the ’80s was Enuff Z’nuff giving us hits like “Fly High Michelle” and “New Thing” but never quite achieving the level of success that other bands were lucky to find. Bassist and co-founder Chip Z’nuff has recently released his first ever solo album, “Strange Time.”
The album takes Chip in a whole new direction than his prior work with a true stoner rock feel to it. Chip has brought a bevy of guests along for the ride with Steven Adler, Dale Bozzio, and Robin Zander all making appearances. The album opens with the laidback vibe of “Sunshine” and overall has a real Beatles feel to it. The uptempo pop flair of “Still Love Your Face” is contagious and the instrumental track “Anna Nichole” is dark and intense. An interesting song is “F..Mary..Kill” which was written with the help of Howard Stern and Steve Miller with the melody taken directly from Miller’s “Fly Like An Eagle.” The first single “Hello to the Drugs” is a fun romp through the world of psychedelia and a stand out track. The album closer is a poppier version of The Kinks “All Day and All of the NIght” featuring Robin Zander on vocals.
“Strange Time” is a trippy journey into the world of psychedelic pop. Put it on, lie back, and enjoy the ride!
