Bullet Boys ‘Elefante’

Best known for their 1988 self titled debut album, the L.A. glam rockers Bullet Boys are back with their first new record in six years, “Elefante” on Cleopatra records. This is their 8th studio album and I’ll admit I was skeptical at first but pleasantly surprised. Quite simply this record rocks. Original lead singer and lead guitarist Marq Torien is back in top form with a new lineup featuring Nick Rozz on rhythm guitar, Chad MacDonald on bass, and Shawn Duncan behind the kit.

“Elefante” has a harder edge with real blues based rock and kicks off with two quality hard driving songs in “Rollover” and “Tsunami.” “Symphony” opens softly before going full bore and is sure to be a live show staple. Like “Symphony” the album has a real ebb and flow to it. A standout track is the bluesy “Kin Folk” with an outstanding vocal performance by Torien. He may have had some issues early in his career but he sounds amazing on this album with raw power and a dynamic range. “Drop Your Weapon” is another must listen to song, an updated 80s’ rocker with a shout out line of “Do It Right Now!” Closing the album out is a glam rock version of Elton John’s “Bitch Is Back” with twangy vocals and a feel good vibe followed by the instrumental title track.

“Elefante” is an album that will probably be overlooked by the masses but is a real diamond in the rough. Torien’s songwriting abilities have aged like a fine wine and he has surrounded himself with musicians who are performing as a tight knit unit. Don’t miss this one!
