Duff McKagen ‘How to be a Man: (and other illusions)’

You may remember Duff McKagan as the hard partying bass player from Guns N’ Roses and all the success and excess that followed. But these days Duff is clean and sober and in his off time you’re more likely to find Duff at home on the weekend staining his deck than whooping it up rock star style. McKagan’s also an accomplished author and has recently released his latest book “How To Be a Man(And Other Illusions)” via Da Capo Press.

In this latest adventure and follow up to the successful “It’s So Easy (and other lies),” Duff is all grown up. With priorities changing as a family man, Duff is once again launching a new journey into rock music with his latest band Walking Papers. This time it’s not about fame and fortune but the love of music as he discusses the real struggles of breaking a new band and balancing both his work and family life, all from a sober point of view. McKagan is a gifted writer and his stories are humorous and charming whether he is waxing poetic about his relationship with his daughters and the realities of being a dad or giving would be musicians sage advice about survival on the road.

“How To Be a Man(And Other Illusions)” is a look into the world of music but most of all at look at life as seen through the eyes of one man; a gifted musician and author and a loving husband and father. If you’re looking for a light and entertaining read with a peek into rock and roll, you’ll enjoy this one. Or, if you need some advice on how to deal with your teenage daughter or perhaps some tips on home maintenance, you’ll also want to add this book to your collection.
