Hall and Oates @ The Avalon Ballroom Theatre (Inside the Fallsview Casino), Niagara Falls, Ontario Thursday, July 23, 2015

The biggest selling duo in music history made an appearance in this past Thursday night at the Fallsview Casino. It was their first at the venue in almost 10 years. Hall & Oates played to a capacity crowd and gave the audience a synopsis of why they were one of the biggest acts of the 1980s.

The band took the stage and went into “Man Eater.” Some feedback problems plagued Hall’s microphone on and off for the first few songs. After it was corrected, it was a smooth sailing show. Hall played the guitar for the entire set until the last song, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” when he stepped behind his keyboards for the rest of the show.

Oates was solid on lead guitar and also sang lead vocals on “Las Vegas Turnaround (The Stewardess Song).” On The Righteous Brothers cover “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” Hall joked that he was glad they wrote that and Oates said, “me too Daryl!” Longtime Hall & Oates musician Charles DeChant played Flute, sax and keys and shared the spotlight at times with them. Oates joined him on occasion playing off his sax solos.

The hour and half set covered the bases of their career. I still feel they could have added a few more tracks to their set instead of extending a few into jams. Nevertheless, they have a wonderful six (6) piece backing band and their harmonies and musical talent is what shapes the band. To see them in the intimate confines of the Fallsview Casino just made the show even feel cozier.
