Nelson ‘Peace Out’

In 1990, Gunnar and Matthew Nelson released their debut album “After The Rain” and took the pop rock music scene by storm with their long blonde hair and #1 hit single “(I Can’t Live) Without Your Love & Affection.” The twins have now been a musical duo for 25 years and have sold almost 7 million records. After exploring some different genres, Nelson returned to their pop rock roots with their 2010 comeback record “Lightning Strikes Twice.” The two are back with a brand new album on Frontiers Music “Peace Out.”

The record opens with “Hello Everybody” which has an almost 50’s rock feel to it and it is crystal clear that the boys are on top of their game. The songs are solid and full of pop hooks with slick production, huge choruses, and their trademark vocal harmonies. The twins sound as good as they ever have vocally but what took me by surprise are some of the heavier tracks with twin lead guitars and heavy duty riffs on tracks like “Rockstar” and “Autograph.” I didn’t know Nelson could rock it out like that. There’s a beautiful ballad “On The Bright Side” and a bluesy rocker “Leave The Light On For Me.” My favorite track was the all out rocker “You and Me” with wicked guitars opening it up.

Nelson fans will enjoy “Peace Out” as it is full of the infectious, feel good pop rock that made their debut album such a success. For those who like their rock a little heavier, there are some great songs for you as well. Gunnar and Matthew have hinted that this album may be their last so make sure to pick up your copy today.
