The Devil Wears Prada ‘Space’

Five years after releasing their highly acclaimed “Zombies” EP, The Devil Wears Prada is back with a new concept EP, “Space.” The record marks somewhat of a new beginning for the band as their first release since re-signing with Rise Records and the first since the departure of lead guitarist Chris Rubey.

“Space” is lyrically themed around different aspects of space but each song stands on its own. The record opens with radio chatter beween mission control and the commander of a ship on “Planet A” before the guitars kick in and we have lift off. The brutal assault of Mike Hranica’s vocals hit you straight in the gut on”Alien,” a song about an alien invasion with no hope of survival for the human race. “Moongod” is up next and is a hardcharging metal song before things change up with the instrumental “Celestial Mechanics.” The first single “Supernova” follows with a great hook and a catchy chorus with cleans from Jeremy DePoyster. “Space” closes out with “Asteroid,” an intense song about what is most important to you with destruction imminent. The sharp constrast between the repetitive screams of Hranica and the cleans of DePoyster bring a chaotic end to it all.

“Space” is both heavy and melodic with dynamic arrangements and a dark feel full of celestial imagery. Since most of us will never truly experience the wonders of outer space, kick back and relax as you experience “Space” The Devil Wears Prada way.
