Shinedown ‘Threat to Survival’

The hard rock hitmakers of Shinedown are back tearing up the airwaves with their fifth (5th) album “Threat To Survival.” Their superb songwriting and consistently solid performances have put them at the top and this new record looks as if that pattern will continue.

Frontman Brent Smith is one of the best vocalists in rock today possessing a voice that is every bit as powerful as it is emotional and his performances truly take the songs on this new album to another level. Opening up the record is the upbeat pop rocker “Asking For It” which sets the stage for an album filled with catchy hooks and contagious sing along choruses. The first single “Cut the Cord” is the heaviest track Shinedown has done in some time and is reminiscent of their earlier work. The band takes some chances with some new ideas as well with the funky groove of “It All Adds Up” and the blues rock vibe of “Oblivion” which begins with a piano and gospel choir intro. The band sounds terrific and the production on the album is flawless with a special shout out to Eric Bass for some outstanding piano work on this record. The one thing “Threat To Survival” seems to be lacking is a truly unique power ballad but “Thick as Thieves” is close. With lyrics that everyone can relate to, the laidback “Misfits” closes the album.

After the giant success of “The Sound of Madness” and “Amaryllis,” Shinedown has a lot to prove with this record. Rest assured that “Threat To Survival” will ensure the band’s survival at the top of the charts once again.
