Black Stone Cherry ‘Thank You:Livin’ Live, Birmingham, UK October 30, 2014′

Kentucky rockers Black Stone Cherry have risen to the top in the last few years going from playing small clubs to arena headlining tours. They have just released their first live DVD via Eagle Vision documenting one of their sold out shows from their “Magic Mountain” tour. The DVD was shot in Birmingham, UK, at the LG Arena and provides fans with a front row seat for the band’s energetic live set.

The film is shot in high definition and covers songs from all four of Black Stone Cherry’s studio albums. Opening shots are of fans lined up outside the venue prior to the show. Then the curtain drops to rising plumes of smoke and we are off with the first song of the evening “Rain Wizard.” Frontman Chris Robertson leads the audience through fan favorites and guitarist Ben Wells is all over the stage as the camera pans left and right to keep him in sight. Their stage set up is no frills with the focal point being on the band’s southern tinged rock and the intense energy they bring to the stage. Set highlights include a poignant performance of “In My Blood” and a rousing extended version of “Blame It On the Boom Boom” with a snippet of the Derek and the Dominos classic “Layla” midway through. Drummer John Fred Young puts in an outstanding solo behind the kit as well. Capping off the evening with a stellar performance of “Peace Is Free” and a raucous “Lonely Train (Can’t Judge a Book),” the band once more brings the audience to their feet. An audio CD is included with the package and bonus features include two tracks live from Download Festival 2015 and an interview with Chris Robertson and Ben Wells also from Download.

“Thank You:Livin’ Live” does a great job showing what Black Stone Cherry is all about. There are no fancy costumes and crazy gimmicks. Instead you have four talented guys who gave their hearts and soul to rock and roll. This new release will be a great addition to any rock fans movie collection and is something fans can sink their teeth into until their new album comes out in 2016.
