“A Light In The Dark” is the official full length debut record via Inside Out from the teenage prodigy band Next To None. The lineup consists of lead vocalist and keyboardist Thomas Cuce, guitarist Ryland Holland, bassist Kris Rank, and drummer Max Portnoy. All band members are under the age of eighteen but don’t let that fool you, these guys play like well seasoned pros. Unlike many of their peers, Next To None is a classic progressive metal band adding extra heavy riffs and a bit of dirty growls to give them a modern edge.
The record opens with the strongest track on the album, “The Edge of Sanity.” With the unique use of samples and terrific prog runs, this tune is a stand out. “You Are Not Me” is a strong single and there is some great keyboard work on “Runaway.” Guitarist Bumblefoot and legendary keyboardist Neal Morse both make guest appearances on the beautiful “A Lonely Walk.” The sonic quality on the record is superb. With the help of producer, legendary drummer, Mike Portnoy, the boys have achieved a sound well beyond their years.
