With a voice and range like no one else, Chris Cornell has been the sound behind iconic rock bands Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog. He’s also done his share of solo work and is back with his latest solo studio album “Higher Truth.”
Produced by Brendan O’Brien, the album is a mostly acoustic venture with some slight orchestrations mixed in. With the focal point on the vocals of Cornell, “Higher Truth” is an intimate outing and a perfect example of why less is sometimes more. Chris really tips his hat to the roots of American rock with a real singer/songwriter, storyteller vibe. The leadoff track and first single “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” has a cool laidback feel and really showcases the soulfulness of Cornell’s voice. The record has a little bit of everything from rock to blues to folk and country overtones. Standout tracks are “Before We Disappear” and the bonus track “Bend in the Road.”
Chris may have found his voice fronting some of the most famous rock bands of the ’90s but it is in an intimate setting like “Higher Truth” where his voice takes new shape allowing the power and beauty of his vocals to resonate through your soul.
