Motörhead front-man and rock legend Lemmy Kilmister succumbed to cancer at the age of 70. In a statement posted to Facebook, Motörhead wrote, “There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from the Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please… play Motörhead loud.”
Lemmmy has done and seen it all. He started his musical journey as a roadie for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. He started his in first band Hawkwing playing bass (even though he never played the instrument before.) He quickly honed his craft that took him to rock icon status in his current band Motörhead. Even though they never achieved superstar status, they were as a consistent as a rock band could be. They sold over 30 million records worldwide and never conformed to the many fads that came and went during their tenure as a band. Their latest offering “Bad Magic” was just released this past August. For that Lemmy and his band achieved far more greater success than any awards that they could have garnered…. respect from their peers!
