Foo Fighters ‘Saint Cecilia’

Dave Grohl is always full of surprises and pulled the ultimate surprise for fans when Foo Fighters released a new five song EP “Saint Cecilia” as a free download. Recorded at the Saint Cecilia Hotel in Austin, TX during the Austin City Limits festival, the EP is a collection of songs that over the decades never made it past the cutting room floor. “Saint Cecilia” is a true back to their roots rock and roll record with a real raw feel.

The title track kicks things off in typical Foo fashion and although recorded prior to the terror attacks in Paris serves as a call for healing from the patron saint of musicians herself and “Sean” is a true nineties al-rock classic. The best track and also heaviest is “Savior Breath.” With a driving riff, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett shows off his mad skills from the opening notes at a break neck speed. The band puts up an almost jazzy contemplative feel on “Iron Rooster” before closing things out with another standout in “The Neverending Sigh.”

“Saint Cecilia” is a real showcase for what the Foo does best and since Dave has hinted that this may be all the Foo Fighters we get for quite awhile, you’ll want to soak it up and savor the feeling.
