Lacey Sturm ‘Life Screams’

It’s been four years since Lacey Sturm shocked fans by stepping down as frontwoman of Flyleaf just a week before the release of the “New Horizons” album to focus on her family life.  She is back on the scene seeking to be a voice of positivity amongst the hopelessness and despair that pervades much of the music scene.  Her debut solo album “Life Screams” is all that and so much more.  In the hard rock vein similar to what she did in Flyleaf, Sturm continues her musical vision with her powerful vocals and oustanding melodies.

Writing with her husband Josh, Korey Cooper of Skillet, and producer David Hodges, Sturm has come up with a fantastic new album full of songs with  raw emotion and contagious hooks.  The first single “Impossible” starts things off with a rocking hook and catchy chorus. The anthemic “I’m Not Laughing” flows into a voice only track “Vanity” asking for forgiveness and serving as an intro to the pain and desperation that is palpable throughout “Rot.”  The sounds of medical equipment beeping start off the colossal power rocker “You’re Not Alone.”  Sturm’s  fierce vocals dominate the record with her immense power and passion shining through.  A surprising highlight of the record is an outstanding cover of The Police’s “Roxanne” done as a slow but immensely powerful rocker.

With top notch songs and exquisite vocal performances,  “Life Screams” is a compelling and dynamic album for Sturm’s return to rock and roll.
